basic set up help

We have just one telephone socket in the house, so for the last few months ive had 20 meters of cable running through the house, every time i want to go online. i bought a wireless g router (wrt54gr)and a couple of net cards to get rid of those annoying cables and hook up anouther computer. i thought that if i plug the router into the modem (next to the phone socket) then it could transmit to the computers in the house, but the intructions tell me that i need to run the router through a main computer witch seems to defeat the object. Am i missing something really obvious or is there a way round this.help wanted by someone very new to this.

Re: basic set up help

Yep, you are mis-reading the instructions. You need to have a wired connection to the router for the initial setup, then you can use it totally wireless.

What's the make/model of the modem in question?

Re: basic set up help

The blue socket is connected to the broadband modem, and stays connected. You connect any wired connections, including the one you need to configure, to any of the yellow ones.
