Physical to Wireless when dropped

Hello, how do I setup Windows so that it only uses the Wireless connection when the manual connection doesn't work?? I have a laptop that I connect to the Internet 24/7 and if my physical network connection gets dropped I want it to then connect to the wireless connection, then when the physical connection is restored to connect back to it. So basically, the wireless is only the temp backup.

Thanks

Re: Physical to Wireless when dropped

That should happen by default with XP.

Let's see this with both interfaces connected.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

ROUTE PRINT
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Physical to Wireless when dropped

If I connect to the Wireless network both will stay connected. I only want the wireless to stay connected unless the LAN drops. Then when I disconnect the wireless it goes to a manual connect state ??

Thanks, here it is;

Re: Physical to Wireless when dropped

Well, there's no way of I know to only connect the wireless when the wired connection fails. You could have them both active, and the wired connection will support the traffic unless it loses it's connection.

Ok, so when I have both connected, how do I know which connection is doing the data transfer? Does both do it, giving me a faster connection since the wireless network isn't my home network?
Thanks

Re: Physical to Wireless when dropped

Nope, it should use the wired connection. You can call up the status of both of the network connections and watch the packet count as the machine runs.
