connection but no internet
I had my computer hooked up through a linksys BEFSR41 router and the ethernet cable from my modem to the router was in the WAN port. in my network connections tab in control panel, it said it had a LAN connection and i had an internet connection but nothing would work. I couldnt use anything that needed an internet connection ex. explorer, firefox, messenger. If it said i had a connection then why could I not do anything? im just connected directly to the modem right now. I know it wasn't a firewall or anything. Anyone know whats up?

Re: connection but no internet
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: connection but no internet
When you connected the router to the modem, did you turn power off on the modem to make the change? That is a MANDATORY step.
Try this procedure to get the router talking on the wired connection, then we can look into any wireless configuration that might be necessary. Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
See if that gets you connected through the router.

Re: connection but no internet
I did, but my modem does not have an on or off button so I just pulled the power plug out of it. The problem is there is a little cord in the back that says do not remove this cord because it is meant for a 911 emergency. It must be sending some power to the modem because when I pull the power plug, all the lights turn off except for the power light which is just flashing. I have an RCA DHG525 modem.
