Problems with my laptop detecting a wireless signal

Hello all, I am currently experiencing a lengthy head-ache trying to figure out why my laptop can not detect any wireless signal.

I used to be able to at least detect my neighbour's wireless signals, there were about 4 or 5. and I connected to one of them from time to time - but now there are no signals detected.
I was at my university one night and I was downloading a .pdf and a .mp3 was downloading off of MSN - and then all of a sudden all the connections were lost and I couldn't connect to my school's network anymore.

I went home, and I was unable to detect any signals at my home, either.

The current remedies I have tried are to use the manufacturer's wireless utlity, installing the WinSock XP Fix, reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling SP2... All to no avail.

If i connect to the internet using a hardline, it works fine (it's how I am connected right now)

Please can someone help me? I gladly appreciate it. Thank you in advance :)

Re: Problems with my laptop detecting a wireless signal

The "winsock fix" is probably incorrect for XP-SP2. Let's do this first.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Then I'd like to see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Check this:

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
  • Computer Browser
  • DHCP Client
  • DNS Client
  • Network Location Awareness
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Server
  • TCP/IP Netbios helper
  • Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

Finally, do this:

Start, Run, devmgmt.msc

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
