Hi everybody,
Here is the situation : Configuration wifi LAN with 3 PC ; broadband connection with router - desktop W2K SP4 static IP Kerio v2.15 - laptop 1 WXP SP2 DHCP XP firewall disabled Kerio v4.3 - laptop 2 WXP SP2 DHCP XP firewall disabled Kerio v4.3 "Before" Until last week (delivery of the 2 new laptops from Dell), configuration was identical - except old laptops had SP1 and Kerio v2.15 - and everything was working perfectly. "After" With the new laptops, symptoms are the following : - all PC can see the 2 other within the same workgroup - shared files of each laptop are reachable from the other laptop - shared files of desktop W2K SP4 are reachable from each laptop BUT - desktop can't access shared files on the laptops - pings are not getting through from desktop towards laptops Error messages on the desktop W2K -1- within Network place, clicking on the name of the workgroup -2-this message is diplayed ![]() Sorry, OS in French... Translation = "uncorrect character" -3- clicking "oui" (yes), ALL PC of the workgroup are displayed -4- then this error message is displayed : ![]() translation = "waited object" -5- click yes -6- clicking on one of the 2 laptops within the list -7- this message is displayed : ![]() translation = 'gTimer' is undefined -8- click yes -9- this last error message is displayed : ![]() translation = \\computer_name is not accessible. Network path not found. Troubleshooting I tried - disabling third parties in IE6 - disabling script debugger in IE6 - reinstalling scripts manager for windows 2000 from windowsupdate (v 5.6) Additional information : - HiJackThis log from desktop is ok - Spybot scan from desktop is ok - Ad-Aware is installed and working permanently on the 3 PC Would someone have an idea... Thansk for advice, I'm puzzled !

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
Failure to ping is almost always a firewall issue. I'd disable all firewalls to get it working. Also, you only need one firewall, more will just complicate things.

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I was thinking about this also, but 2 things appeared in between : - it is SOMETIMES working (2 min ago, I accessed one laptop from the desktop) - I have some Mrxsmb errors 8003 in the event viewer From what I read on some forums, it may be linked to my trouble and one thing to do could be to force desktop to be masterbrowser and to disable the service on the laptops. What do you think about this ? |

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
Well, if you have master browser issues, that can affect networking. :) Here's a page on master browser issues and some solutions: http://www.chicagotech.net/browser.h...wser%20servers

Hi,
Thanks for your message. Firewall : as file sharing is part-time working, I guess the problem does not come from the firewall. Am I right ? During writing this post I tried several times to access one laptop, and it works... ![]() But 2 hours ago it was not working. Browser - I disabled in the registry "MaintainServerList" on the laptops and enabled it on the desktop, but it did not solve the problem. Would any change on the parameter "IsDomainMaster" be useful ? If yes, which one ? No more Browser errors (ID 8003) in EvenViewer, except something about an ancient shared file (ancient since I changed drive letter months ago and this does not exist anymore). Error source is "Server" and ID is 2511. Summarized situation - part-time access only to shared files on laptops from desktops - script errors occurring even when, at the end, the file is reachable - no more Mrxsmb errors in the event viewer That's it. Any idea ? I'm really lost...

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
Actually I removed from the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares) the references to ancient shared files and there is no more Server errors in the eventviewer after reboot.
No more errors at all in fact. For the moment, I can access laptops from the favorites network places, but for how long ? Script errors remain when trying to display the list of PC within the LAN. It's late here, let's see this within a few hours. Last edited by Issoulane; 10-29-2007 at 08:23 PM. |

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
I don't know where the script errors are coming from, I've never seen that. IE shouldn't figure into local file sharing at all.

Re: IE6 script error when accessing network place
I would appreciate that, I'm sure there's a reason, I just don't know what it is.
