Advice Please re Protecting networked pc

Hi all,

I want to set up a basic network. My primary pc, at least in the beginning, will be the only pc connecting to the internet. I just want to connect my other pc to access and backup files from my primary pc.

On my primary pc I run Avast a/virus, AdAware, Spybot, etc, and have never had any problems since installing the above apps.

If you were me, would you install the above apps on the client pc as well?

Suggestions, experiences, and advice very welcome,

All my machines are connected to the Internet, and they all have current AV and spyware protection. I count on the firewall in the router, and for many years it has not failed me.
