[SOLVED] Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
Hi,
2 computers of mine has had trouble with successfully connecting to my network (out of 4). It is currently setup as a wireless connection to a router from sky (isp). It says the connection is good quality and strength, however when trying to connect, it says it completed the stages e.g. 'connecting to network'. When it attempts to aquire the IP address from the router, it doesn't complete it and eventually restarts this pattern continuously. •The 2 other computers still connect to the network without a problem •Attempted to connect while other computers were switched off unsuccessfully •The computer has been recently purchased (6 months ago), •It connected for the first 2 weeks without a problem. •To see if the problem was the network cards, i connected by ethernet without success (same problem with IP address). Please help! Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
I suggest we pick one computer and concentrate on getting it working.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make/model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On the problem computer, let's see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
Thanks for the reply, heres the info as best as i can get (i cant get certain info on the router)
Modem: HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver: CXT 7.34.0.0 Router: 'Sky Router' Netgear DG834GT Wireless conection Connection type: WPA-Personal TKIP Windows XP - Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 Acer Aspire 1642ZWLMi Acer Signal up:High efficiency antenna technology 1.70GHz, 500RAM When attempting to connect to the wireless, it attempts to connect to the network, however doesn't go past 'Renewing your IP address' . It then disconnects and attempts to reconnect with the same problem. When attempting to run IPCONFIG /ALL the command window opens however it closes immediately Tried in safe mode with cmd prompt: Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional information: Unable to query host name. Hope you can help, sorry if some specs are limited, i normally use everest, however no internet on this computer!

Re: Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
Have you tried a wired connection to see if you can connect that way? My guess is this could be an encryption issue, I'd also try disabling encryption and see if you can connect wirelessly without it.

Re: Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
attempted to connect without wireless (wired) without success.
Also successfully connected on a friends wireless without a problem. Compatibility issue? but why would it have worked previously?

Re: Searching for IP Address (isp=sky)
Try a new cable, different port on the router, and if all else fails, a new NIC in the machine. If the wired connection doesn't work, that's the first thing to diagnose.
