Network cable Unplugged Error - exhausted most solutions!
Hi
My problem began when i moved into university halls 3 weeks ago and tried to connect to the internet. All rooms come with ethernet ports and supposidly you plug in and your away. I plugged my laptop in but it doesnt even register im plugged in as i get the error message 'network cable unplugged'. I began by trying different cables (several to be precise and turning them around!) and this didnt fix the problem. Strangely everywhere else on campus and at home i have no problems using my ethernet connection, it works great. Its just my halls, i cant connect in my room, or anyone elses. Friends have tried my port and it works on their laptops no problems, even the engineer came out and gave the port the all clear. I have disabled all other connections (wireless, bluetooth). I have disabled my firewalls. I have altered the link speeds manually. I have disabled and enabled connection. I have reinstalled drivers and network adapter, i even went as far as wiping the laptop to factory settings with no avail. I have rung the college IT service desk, they dont know whats up at the moment, there looking into it, but they just ran through a list of checks of which ive already done. i have tried the ipconfig /all but this does not give any infomation because its not 'connecting'. Im running on windows xp home edition, my computer is a Rock Quaddra T64 - not sure this should make a diffrence?! Im just seeing if anyone else has any soloutions for me? im stumped i would believe i have a dogy network card but it works everywhere else with no probs..... Any help would be appreciated as im paying for internet i cant recieve but more importantly, im missing important emails and paper work for my MSc and i dont want to fail!!! Cheers |

Re: Network cable Unplugged Error - exhausted most solutions!
Get a cheap Ethernet switch and put it between your computer and the college network connection. This may be an electrical compatibility issue.
