PC Anywhere 12 without opening or forwarding firewall ports
Greetings forum members,
My company has recently purchased PC Anywhere 12 with the intention of remotely monitoring machines located in a different part of the country. I have used PC Anywhere and similar software before, and am aware of how port forwarding typically works with hardware firewalls. Unfortunately in this case our customer is unable and unwilling to open or forward any ports on their LAN to allow access to this machine. The system administrator there tells me that she knows PC Anywhere will work without having to forward the ports because another contractor was able to do so in the past. Unfortunately she does not know exactly how they were able to do this. Currently they are using a web based remote tool called "Log me in". But they are currently only using a free trial and do not want to purchase the service. My question is; Is it possible to connect to a remote computer using PC Anywhere over port 80 or something similar? Or is there another way to get around having to forward ports? |

Re: PC Anywhere 12 without opening or forwarding firewall ports
The only way you can connect to a remote system without any forwarded ports with any application would be for the remote location to "invite you in", which is how logmein works. There may be a method of starting the connection from the remote end, which is probably how they did the trick. I don't use PCA, so I'm not familiar with the details.
