Unstable connection 'after' hubs
Hi all,
Our internet connection was recently activated. We received a modem from our ISP and connected it, tested it with a laptop connected to it directly. All was fine. We then connected a router to the modem, and tested. All was fine. After this, we connected 2 hubs to the router. On #1 hub, a computer + xbox is connected. On #2 hub 2 computers and another hub with a computer is connected. So currently a computer is connected like: Modem --> Router --> hub --> computer With this connection scheme, the connection crashed about every 10-15 minutes and stays offline for, my guess is, less than 1-2 minutes. After this it automatically 'revives'. Now, When I connect my laptop directly to the router or the modem: Modem --> Router --> Laptop Everything works according to plan, no crashes. We've tried to connect only 1 hub to the router. No success(we tried this with all 3 hubs). We tried to disable the router's DHCP and assign a unique IP to the laptop. No success. I'm really in the dark on this one. AFAIK, all a hub does is pass on a signal to everyone. How could this conflict? I hope one of you can help us, if you need any further info. Please shout. thelamb p.s. the router is a Belkin. UPDATE: As I was about to post this thread, the connection failed again. Even when I connected my laptop directly to the router. I will now try to connect it directly to the modem (there are 2 ports on the modem) Will keep you posted |

Re: Unstable connection 'after' hubs
Hard to say, you didn't provide any real data. What kind of "hubs" are we talking about?
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make/model of network card or wireless adapter. Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built). Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
