Internet cutting in and out

I have two computers connected to a Netgear router. Computer A is a Gateway desktop running Vista. Computer B is a Fujitsu laptop running XP. The internet consistently works on computer A, but often just cuts out for no reason on computer B. Yet, after restarting computer B, the internet begins to work again. Also, certain internet oriented programs such as outlook work even when firefox is unable to connect to any websites.

I have tried switching cords, and that has had no help. I've tried to put the laptop on wireless, but have been unable to get it to recognize the network (that is another problem altogether it seems). I've also tried toying with the firewall, which doesn't seem to work either.

Any suggestions would be very helpful, as I only have a cursory knowledge of networking. Thank you for your time, and if you have any further questions, shoot me an e-mail at mwayman@sigelpress.com.

-Matt

Re: Internet cutting in and out

check what happens once you disconnect the wireless network connection and then connect again you should be able to get the connection you need to upgrade the firmware software of your netgear router go to netgears website and upgrade to the latest firmware for you router. before that make a note of all of your routers settings .

Re: Internet cutting in and out

Since this is a wired issue, have you considered malware as a suspect?
