At present a Verizon DSL Westell Versalink 327W (B90-327W15-06) is connected to a HP Pavilion ZE5400 through Ethernet or Wireless which I am using to send this.
I need to connect this DSL Router to a Dell Model-WHL. The Dell has a Broadcom NetXtreme 57XX Gigabit Controller BCM 5751 and a Linksys Wireless G PCI Card with SpeedBoost WMP54GS. It appears to connect because I can see and download things from the Internet. If you try to go out, it says internet is not connected. From my understanding reading forums, Verizon DSl Westell Router have a problem connecting to Dell Computers. People have tried different things to fix it but none of them seem to work. I went to CMD and ran: netsh winsock reset catalog then netsh int ip reset reset.log. I rebooted it, then did a IPCONFIG/ALL. It looks very strange compared to what it looks like on my laptop. This is what it looks like: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
Start, Run, IPV6 UNINSTALL
Post another IPCONFIG after rebooting.

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
Hmm... It doesn't look like IPv6 actually uninstalled.
Select Start > Settings > Network Connections. Double-click the Local Area Connection icon to open the Local Area Connection Status window. Click the Properties button to open the Local Area Connection Properties window. What entries show up in the properties window. Post a screen shot if possible. To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
This shows a good connection to the Ethernet NIC. I'm assuming that the PPP adapter is your broadband modem? I see no wireless hardware in the IPCONFIG at all.
Uncheck everything but Microsoft Client and TCP/IP in that connection properties and see how that works. Start, Run, devmgmt.msc Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
You appear to have ICS enabled, which certainly isn't right. Follow these directions to disable it: Disabling Internet Connection Sharing

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
Thanks John,
I only found the wireless with sharing on so I unchecked it. I am still not connecting. I checked everything against my laptop and they only difference is the Verizon.Net connection. When you log on with the laptop, you see the following messages. 1. Registering Your Computer on the Network 2. Authorization 3. Connecting. With the Dell you only see the first message. The PPP Adapter for the Laptop IP Address 71.161.79.44 Sub Mask 255.255.255.255 Default Gate 71.161.79.44 DNS Servers 71.243.0.12 71.250.0.12 The PPP Adapter for the Dell IP Address 71.255.137.156 Sub Mask 255.255.255.255 Default Gate 71.255.137.156 DNS Servers 71.243.0.12 71.250.0.12 This doesn't tell me much but you may have some idea looking at it. I also ran the Verizon Online Help and Support and it check the connection and said it wasn't there. I can see the Internet and download but the computer doesn't see it so, it says I'm not connecting with Verizon I would appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks |

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
With a modem/router, I'm at a loss as to how you're getting those public IP addresses. You were getting normal 192.168.1.x addresses before from the router, what did you change? Did you configure the modem/router in bridge mode?

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
John,
I was just showing you the PPP Adapter IP addresses if I used wireless for my laptop and the Dell system. I wanted to show you differences, where one worked (laptop) and the other (Dell) didn't. I took the wireless out of the Dell in case there was a conflict. The following is what it looks like with just the Ethernet (BroardCom) connected to the PPP Adapter. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : RICHSCOMPUTER Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : myhome.westell.com Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : myhome.westell.com Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Cont roller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-11-4B-A7-7F Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.46 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, October 16, 2007 5:50:05 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, October 17, 2007 5:50:05 PM PPP adapter verizon.net: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 70.20.61.54 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 70.20.61.54 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 71.243.0.12 71.250.0.12 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled C:\Documents and Settings\Owner> I ran the normal Verizon Connection Software and it doesn't see the Internet. If the connection was not working I wouldn't be typing this right now. I just think it's not connecting to the Verizon Server although both DNS Servers show the same. I don't get the Authenticated and Connecting like I get with the laptop when I sign on. I can log on to any of the Web Sites and get my mail. I just checked Verizon. Normally I connect Verizon to Miscrosoft Outlook to manage my mail. Thanks Again |

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
John,
In my previous post, I noticed in the IPCONFIG that in RichsComputer that IP Address is not enabled. How is that changed? I noticed in previous IPCONFIGs it was enabled. I also noticed today, that it does say Authenticated and Connecting but it's fast. This computer is a 3.6G with dual processors. Thanks |

Re: Verizon DSL to Dell Connection
I'm not sure what you are saying is "not enabled", can you be more specific?
