Hello there guys,
I've been trying to sort out this issue for quite some time now and its very frustrating. Basically, I have two computers (WinXP Pro SP2) that are networked using an ADSL Modem/Router, which assigns them unique internal IP's (DHCP). The computers can ping each other, but I cannot share any files between them. The filesharing 'broke' overnight, I can't tell what caused it. I've disabled all firewalls, ensured that they're in the same workgroup, enabled NetBios in network settings, tried using advanced file sharing to give permissions to 'everyone'... all to no avail. I think the problem is with one computer in particular, who cannot even access its own shared files through \\Computername ... I get the error that I do not have permission to do this. The other computer simply cannot be located for filesharing purposes. Any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. I've run out of ideas in terms of what to try. |

Re: Frustrating Networking Problems
Try this first.
Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents: You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD. 1)Filename : FIXANON.REG 2)Save as type: all files 3)Encoding: ANSI If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be FIXANON.REG.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result. ------------------- Use text after this line ------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000 ------------------- Use text before this line ----------------- Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question. Reboot the computer. I'd also like to see this for each computer. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following two commands: nbtstat -n ipconfig /all Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Frustrating Networking Problems
Hey John,
I've tried the reg. file but it doesn't seem to have worked. See below for the command window: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: Frustrating Networking Problems
It is indeed disabled, which is probably the issue.
First, try this: TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log Reboot the machine. Next, check your Services are Started on all PCs:
Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
