Laptop wont connect

Hi I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop I have only had it a few months. It worked fine when i first got it then i lost my connection to the internet and my wireless connection as well so I recovered my pc and it still did not connect on its own. os is vista. I also have a desktop computer that runs windows xp and i have a vonage modem conected to the desktop and a wireless router connected to that xp is connected by an ethernet cable (yellow) and a blue ethernet cable going from modem to router. all lites are working fine not that i know much about these things. when i turn on my laptop nothing happens it does not find the connection on its own like it use to when i try to connect it says it cant find any networks and when i try to get into internet explorer no connection. when i try to turn on network discovery it wont allow me to. I dont know the difference between a wireless network and an internet connection. I know i am a little slow but i have tried every thing that i know how to do. I am very frustrated and i hate calling tech support. Maybe my settings are all wrong. i looked at the info for my laptop and it says there is no gateway adress and ip address. i hope that someone can help or i just may toss it out the window

Re: Laptop wont connect

Wait until I get under the window to toss it!

First off, did you try connecting it with a cable? Try that and see if it connects.

With the cable connected, let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
