internet connection good for 5 hours periods
I appoligize if this is the wrong forum, but I thought it would be a good place to start. My cable hi-speed internet connection routinely (sp?) dies after about 4-5 hours but always comes back when the computer is restarted. I have ran several spyware programs and found nothing that fixed te problem. Am I chasing a hardware problem (maybe my modem??) or some other fault? Ask as many questions as needed

Re: internet connection good for 5 hours periods
Hey Chris, welcome to TSF
Is this a recent thing, or has it been going on for a while. If it's a recent thing, try a system restore point prior to the occurance of the problem. If it's been going on for a while, it might just be that your ISP uses a session limit (though I've never heard about this being used for cable). You might need to call them up to find out if this isn't the case. Hope this helps

Re: internet connection good for 5 hours periods
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make/model of the broadband modem. Make/model of the router (if any). Connection type, wired, wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.) Make/model of network card or wireless adapter. Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built). Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. I'd also like to see this when it's working, then again when it stops working. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

modem - Westell B90-200013-04
no router wired connection network adapter - Realtek RTL8139/810x family fast ethernet NIC Intel celron D processor 345 XP home edition 5.1.2600 Service pack 2 build 2600 When it stops working, the only error messages are from internet using programs saying the the internet connection has failed. If I check my network connections when the connection is down, there are 2 connections. One is labeled "1394 connection" which shows connected, while the other connection, "local area connection" shows "limited to no connectivitey" This seccond connection is the one that uses the Realtek adapter while the first connection uses a "1394 net adapter". Here are the results while the connection is still good. I'll get the non working results in a few hours. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: internet connection good for 5 hours periods
When I had a Linksys WRT54G, the router itself would just drop occasionally. Then I bought a D-Link WBR-2310 and the problem went away altogether... at that point the only disconnects I see on my notebook is my wireless dropping after a long period (2-3 days) and just having to reboot for it to continue to work.
Not sure if this is the problem you're having, but I figured I'd throw something in from my experience. EDIT: Sorry, just read your last post... disregard, although it might be your modem instead of the router like I said Last edited by mmelzer2004; 09-29-2007 at 10:54 AM. |
