Help setting up a network
I would like to set up a network on my two computers in my room. But, I had some failed attempts before, and there are signs of it lying around. I would first like to delete any networks I might have created. So, how do I 'delete' the previous attemps to creating a network, and where do I go to see my Networks? Then we'll go from there, I would provide much more information about my computer, but I would really like to get this first issue solved and then move on to the actual setup.
Thanks! Last edited by Purkinje : 09-26-2007 at 09:24 PM. |

Re: Help setting up a network
I believe you can find your network from the My Network Places icon on your desktop by doubleclicking it, or from Start, or Start>connect to>show all connections, or even from any windows explorer and look at your left side in common task folder (you'll find Other Places and simply click My Network Places).
Find the network that you created-but-failed there and delete it. Can you tell me what went wrong when you tried it first? |

Re: Help setting up a network
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make/model of the broadband modem. Make/model of the router (if any). Connection type, wired, wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.) Make/model of network card or wireless adapter. Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built). Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. What "signs" of your attempts are lying around. What works and what doesn't? Are you connected to the Internet with the machine?

If I'm missing something, just tell me. The two computers I'm trying to get networked is a: laptop that I got christmas of 2005 I think. The other is a desktop computer that is relatively old that I got for free from a friend. the "signs" I see from the previous network are: a folder called "SharedDoc on [computer name]," which contains a bunch of shared folders, and also a My Shared Documents in My Documents. These are the only two signs I can find. Thanks! Purkinje |

Re: Help setting up a network
If you have no broadband modem, how are you connecting to the Internet? As far as the "traces" of the previous network, let's ignore them for now, they're not important.
Explain EXACTLY what you're trying to accomplish, and what you have connected presently.
