Wireless Network connection help
so my dad (who has a very limited knowledge about computers) is having a problem connecting to a wireless network and expects me to solve it for him.
so here's the basic run down from what i gather. - he is currently running windows xp. - he can't connect to a wireless network and has tried three different browsers (FF, netscape, IE). - when he opens his internet connection options he sees three connections, a dial up one (which works) and two broad band networks (forget the names but probably just LAN and another one like normal) and a "virtual network" which is currently set to netscape (i have no idea what this means). - his wireless card can pick up networks (as in it displays their names and signal strengths) and says he is connected (i think) but pages still will not load. i am pretty experienced with windows, but not so much with networks so i'm not sure what to do here. plus trying to explain stuff over the phone to someone who doesn't really know what they are doing and trying to have them explain what is going on in a useful fashion is always a pain in the ***. i am thinking he may have messed with a setting or something or maybe he blocked a port that needs to be open. i am sorry, but at the moment this is all the (useful) information i could gather about his problem over the phone. any help would greatly be appreciated. |

Re: Wireless Network connection help
It's going to be difficult to impossible to remotely troubleshoot this problem through a 3rd party. I suggest you either be at the computer for the troubleshooting, or have him login here directly for help.
