Post Unique IP assigned to each device?

I do not necessarily consider myself unexperienced in this subject, but I have come across an anomaly I can't explain on my own network. Each of the devices connected to my Netgear WG-series router are assigned their own address, not related to each other except for maybe the first two octets. They are 72.230.xxx.xxx, whereas every person I know provided by the same cable service in the area have '24.195.xxx.xxx'. (Road Runner [Time Warner], if are curious.)

This is a problem, as where I would normally refer to each device by IP, all attempts to connect fail.

Could anybody explain why this is happening to me?

Also, (and probably related,) I haven't been able to reach the Admin panel using the information on the unit itself for months!

Your anticipated help is much appreciated. :D

Re: Unique IP assigned to each device?

Wow, this is a wonder... Are you saying you have multiple PUBLIC IP addresses? The devices on your network (unless rather large) should appear to be 192.168.x.x, or may a 172. possibly a 10.... If it's a private IP issue, check the subnet mask on your computers (Start, Run, CMD, IPCONFIG /ALL) If you're on a small network your subnet mask should appear something like 255.255.255.0. Compare these to the router just in case. Sorry if it seems condescending as you said you're no stranger to networking, just a very awkward problem.

Also, don't worry about your neighbors IP's, they don't necessarily go sequentially, it's your ISP's doing.

Re: Unique IP assigned to each device?

Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port, not one of the LAN/Network ports. Restart the modem, then the router, and see if that sorts things out.
