never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
Hi
My computer is configured for static IP. My computer is connected at various times to two different networks, but it is not connected all the time to either of them. When the network is connected, if Windows is already running when the connection occurs it ALWAYS displays the icon in the bottom right corner to say acquiring IP address, and in Network Connections the status says "Acquiring IP address". Because my computer is configured for static IP address, this never disappears it just stays that way. The networks DO work properly its just irritating that Windows seems to think they are not working properly. This happens with more than one network adapter, one wireless and one ethernet. Same problem exactly as described above. Thanks in advance anyone who can offer any suggestions, Eli |

Re: never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
Do you have anything configured in the alternate TCP/IP configuration?
Let's see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

No when using Static IP you cannot set an Alternate configuration.

Re: never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
You got me, I've never seen this. I don't know where that would be coming from, it's the DHCP client that normally outputs that message. Have you stopped the DHCP client in Windows Services to see if that changes things?

Re: never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
No still says "Acquiring IP address" with DHCP Client service stopped. Must be working though because I'm using that connection to post this message!
Very perculiar and a bit irritating to see the icon in the bottom right corner when it should only show if a real connection error occurs. Thanks for trying :) Eli |

Re: never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
Try disabling the wired NIC in Device Manager, see if that removes the prompt.

Re: never finish acquiring IP address w/static ip
Very strange, I can't find anything on this issue, and I've never seen it before.
