very slow connecting to websites
I recently built a new PC with an evga 680i motherboard. Whenever I visit a website, it will take anywhere between 5-20 seconds to go from "connecting" to finally loading the page.
I have tried the following remedies: I have had the same problem on 2 different networks, my home and the campus network. My laptop hooked up to the same router as my pc works fine I have tried not using my router and connecting directly I have tried the default DNS server and opendns A have used both Ethernet ports I have tried using Firefox, IE and Opera I have tried updating my motherboard drivers, updating Ntune, uninstalling Ntune, and have all my PC drivers and bios updated as of 9/20. I am absolutely exhausted of all solutions, and come to you for help. |

Re: very slow connecting to websites
Sounds like you might have some issue with the on-board Ethernet ports. You seem to have exhausted most of the other options. :)
Try a cheap $10 PCI NIC and see if that changes the symptoms.

Re: very slow connecting to websites
alright thanks a lot, thats what i was figuring at this point. Is there any way i could perhaps use my laptop and its ethernet port to see if i can connect normally to the internet through that, confirming the problem is my ethernet ports?
also if i were to resort to buying an NIC would this; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166003 be a good idea? I cannot use up another pci port due to the combination of a geforce8800 tv tuner and soundcard. Last edited by mysteri0usdrx : 09-23-2007 at 03:57 PM. |

Re: very slow connecting to websites
Sure, if the laptop has a normal configuration, simply connecting the Ethernet with a patch cable to the router should allow it to connect.
Are you sure you have a PCI-X bus connection, and not a plain PCI bus connection? Note that adapter is for PCI-Express. If it's PCI-X, that adapter should be fine.

Re: very slow connecting to websites
OK, that is the correct NIC in that case.

Re: very slow connecting to websites
Do you have any internet security with realtime scanning?
This could cause pages to load slowly. As could general spyware. Try hitting ctrl+alt+del and check your processes list for anything out of the ordinary. Get Adaware and Spybot, get the updates, run scans and delete any nasties. See if you can pause any realtime scanning while you test how quick a page loads afterwards... hope this helps |
