I'm having serious problems running a Snap Server. I run it as an extra hard drive. No operating system, just a file holder. It only seems to work if I run it through a network router called Linksys (BEFSR41 V4). Mind you, I dont know if it can work directly, this is only the way I figured out how. Irritating, but it works....sort of. Mind you, the router is worthless for anything else because I cannot configure it for the internet.
Now, the main problem. I disconnected everything to change locations, and now the server wont work. All the lights are on on the router and server, but when I try to map the drive, it says; "the mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occured: The workstation driver is not installed." I tried looking for the drivers for both pieces of hardware, but I dont know where to get them, yes I know, manufaturers websites, but I can't find them there. I have a windows XP Home OS on an Emachine computer. I'm running SP2. The device manager gives me no answers, not even a warning. Can someone help? ![]() |

Re: Networked server
I'd start from scratch, reset the SnapServer to defaults and try the installation again. I'm guessing that is requires a DHCP server to assign it's IP address, which is why it wants the router in the mix.

Re: Networked server
I don't know the machine, but there should be a set of setup instructions to connect it when you get it out of the box in factory default configuration. Are you saying that when you follow those instructions, you can't find the Snap Server? Maybe it's dead?

Re: Networked server
instructions? would love too have read them, lol. I got this as a gift from my brother. he got it out of the dumpster at work. How I got it working the first time baffles even me since I know nothing about networks no less servers.

Re: Networked server
Well, the dumpster should be a clue.

Re: Networked server
no, it works just fine. they got a load of new servers. This ones worked up till now. It LOOKS like its working, all the lights are normal, and its not making any funny noises, or anything. It seams like a software problem, possibly drivers for either the network or the server. I can log into the networks ip
