Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
[b]The Linksys utility says it can find the internet but it has good connectivity and signal to the access point.
I just installed a USB G on a Dell XP Media PC that had to be moved to a different room where direct wiring was not possible. The USB says its conected to the access point (Westrell 327W a Verizons cable model/wireless/router hardware). The wireless network connection status says connected but I did have to change the IP manually to a 192.168.1.x type address in order to get this connection to function. Prior to that it kept coming up with a 169.254.47.5 address. The complete net work consists of an IMAC and a Gateway PC connected via ethernet cat 5 cables to a Linksys 5 port EZXS55W switch and then this switc connects to the Westrell Ethernet 1 port. No wireless networking was being used until this attempt but the Westrell unit indicator is solid green on the wireless status. Other computers have email and internet although they cannot see each other for some reason on the network. They both have IP addresses in the 192.168.1.x range. Tom |

Re: Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
It is not really connected, and manually changing the IP address is not a solution.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log Reboot the machine. I'd also like to see this after the repair. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
John,
Here is the IP after I tried some other options.. First I unistalled the USB G and then reinstalled the USB G but this time on WEP KEY word I used the first ten digits that were printed on the sticker under the Modem. That seemed to get me access and then the internet and email worked on the Dell. Later I found a way to get into the Westrell site and confirmed the WEP Key. I did run the IPConfig though after this and here it is. Now that I have the Dell with access, how do I get it to network to the other computers on my wired Ethernet network - an IMAC and Gateway? I was able to get the MAC and Gateway to network but only after turning off all the firewalls - AVG and the Westrell. I even can use the Mac printers with the Gateway. Now since the Dell is wireless and talk directly to the Modem/Router while the wired units are on the switch is it possible I need to bridge those two networks. I have a wireless router Linksys WRAT54G that I was thinking of installing in place of the 5 port switch because it would let me tie all the PCs to one acess point but I am wondering if its worth the expense. The other question is how do I get my firewall back on and still keep the network functioning? Re: Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
What AVG "firewall" are we talking about?
You don't have to bridge anything, wired or wireless, they should all be in the same subnet. It's quite possible to configure firewalls to allow networking, but we need to know specifically what you have.

Re: Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
That's an anti-virus package, not a firewall.

Re: Linksys USB G to Westrell 327 W
OK, I've never used that one. In any case, you need to put your subnet in the trusted zone of the firewall. That would be the IP range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255
