Idea Dual Networking

HI. I am installing a PC based Inspection system using XP and a network of hard wired inspection devices that talk over over the network. All works fine. Now I need to have remote access to this computer. My only choice at present is a wireless network. I installed the adapter ( USB ) and it works fine .... but NOT when the hardwired network is also working. Disconnecting one makes the other work fine.

I have tried setting different IP numbers for the LAN and the Wireless. Again, both work independantly but not when both are on.

Ideas Please.

Thanks in advance

Re: Dual Networking

Yes it is, Thanks. But all the info I have found says to specify the IPs at the computer and not use DHCP. This is something I really want to resolve. Most factories I install systems in don't want to allow remote access to their internal networks to prevent spam etc. so the "Controling" computer I am installing ends up Stand alone with just the local LAN running my equipment. I have lots of these systems around the country and need the remote access as a method of tuning up their system when they have a new product changes.

With the introduction of USB Wireless cards by Cingular and Sprint, I can offer this service and .. save some them some money and time on travel .. by offering this service. I will have to set this up many times on different computers. All using XP Pro and Remote desktop or PCAnywhere or ????.

First step though is to get the one in my home lab working over my D-link router. Then fight the Cingular problem.

On my system here, the Vision Cameras have IP# 192.168.0.9 - 10 - and 11 with subnets 255.255.255.0 My Control computer with its local LAN is 192.168.0.150. My Wireless card is 192.168.0.200. The router, 192.168.0.1. All other computers on the network use DHCP.

Maybe this info will help.

Thanks again.

Re: Dual Networking

Still baffled :(

I have tried DHCP on and off. I have changed the DHCP Range and set these two networks out of range. I have tried Static DHCP. I have tried bridging the wired and wireless networks.

Mostly the same problem:

If I have the wired network to my equipment running, I can not access the wireless to my local network. If I disable the wired, it works fine. If I enable the wired, but disconnect the cable, the wireless works fine. If I connect the wireless and then connect the wired, I can't see my devices.

Any more Ideas ? Anyone ? Anyone ? :))

Rich

Re: Dual Networking

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make/model of the broadband modem.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

How EXACTLY are you wiring all of this together. What is the output to the customer from this system? I assume you're wiring all of the cameras to the system, then plan on connecting with the cell phone wireless link?

Re: Dual Networking

You got it johnwill, I will give you the setup but ... for some strange reason I got it working somewhat.

I am currently running a D-Link wireless router in my house IP 192.168.0.1. I have the DHCP on and Range set from 100 - 150.

My laptop and a couple desktops and now this Vision System's computer are all online.

The Vision System computer's wireless adapter ( Dynex USB ) is designated 192.168.0.190 and am using Windows Zero Configuration.

I have three (3) Ethernet based Vision Cameras that run under Java. ( WHy ????) anyway I designated them 192.168.1.10 - 11 - and 12.

I set the local LAN on the Vision Computer to 192.168.1.100

I have PCanywhere running on the Vision Computer in Host mode ..... and ....

I now CAN talk from my laptop to PCanywhere and make all changes and see all live images.
( The Java based host program on the Vision Computer is what I am using to see and change things ... I have not tried to access the cameras directly over this ..uh ..uh .. side street ) :))

Now, when I go to install, I will replace the Dynex adapter with a Cingular ( AT&T ) USB phone card and try and get it to work over the internet.

Because I am behind the router I have not yet been abble to connect over the internet to PCanywhere. I know the IP number and have set the Vision COmputer as the DMZ but it does not find it.

Thanks for being interested.

Regards,

Rich

PS - I WOULD like to make a donation to TSF

Re: Dual Networking

To connect from the Internet to PC Anywhere, if it's in the DMZ and you know the IP address, it should be as simple as connecting. I don't use PC Anywhere, have you considered trying something like UltraVNC.

Re: Dual Networking

do you have the correct port open for it to direct it to your computer. I use ultra vnc and ultra vnc sc. ultra vnc port is 5900 I still have to have the port open on the router to direct it to my computer. even with dmz on. go to this link
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...pcAnywhere.htm
and follow these instructions on how to foward ports to the appropriate ip. and my wireless security cams I have each have a port for each one
