Move the file/print server onto the switch, no reason to have it go through two switches for access.

Re: my small office network model (fancy pics included)

No, I mean connect the server to the 16 port switch. Right now the traffic to the server has to go through two switch hops, which is unnecessary. If there is heavy traffic there, it could also affect the throughput to the Internet on the router, depending on the speed of that connection, and how busy it is. It's also pointless to have an extra switch in front of the server.

Re: my small office network model (fancy pics included)

lol i updated my diagram a few times, you probably need to refresh your browser. simpswr posted the new ones.

anyway...

I got a suggestions from another forum about possibly adding firewall software to the desktop and server.

I also thought about adding a firewall device. Does this usually go between the dsl modem and router? Is this the best place?

Will adding firewall software plus a firewall device add too much problem?

I want to boost my network security a bit.

I know that's the image you're seeing, I was showing you why I made the comments I did. Did you not look at the image with notes I posted? What part of that didn't you understand?

Re: my small office network model (fancy pics included)

I took the picture that I annotated from the post here, and other than my additions, it's exactly the same graphic. So you can see why I'm confused that you're confused. What "earlier" picture are you talking about?
