Outlook Express help
I need help getting an email account trasfered to a different computer. I used this email account with a dial-up connection, then I upgraded to cable internet and now would like to be able to access that internet account in OE6. I added the account, typed in POP3 and SMTP servers, and tried to send a test email, but it didn't go through. It keeps prompting to use a dial-up connection (which is what I used to use on the computer i'm trying to get the email account on).
Any and all help will be much appreciated! Purkinje |

Re: Outlook Express help
You don't need the email account, you simply need the files associated with the account. With Outlook Express, you should look for a .wab file, which will be a hidden file, under your Documents and Settings. This is your address book. This may be of help to you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670

Re: Outlook Express help
Open Internet Explorer . . click on Tools . . Internet Options . . click on the Connection tab . . put a check in "Never Dial a Connection" . . .
Then in Outlook Express, be sure the SMTP server matches your new ISP

Re: Outlook Express help
My appologies,
from your original post, you mentioned "transfer", which indicates to me that you want all your current stuff switched to a different computer. simpswr has informed you how to setup your computer not to dial a connection, sorry I misunderstood. If it's not working, post back.

Re: Outlook Express help
Some ISP's have the SMTP blocked, to keep infected computers from sending spam from their email clients. I know for sure BellSouth (AT&T) does. For example, in my Outlook, I have a server I pay for hosting for, and I have to put in for my POP3 mail.myservername.com, and in the SMTP area I have to put mail.bellsouth.net, just to be able to send email from my personal computer. You may want to check with your host, and ask them if they do block SMTP from customer computers.
