I have to add a new computer to my network. I have a switch, dsl router.
I simply connect that all the wires from each machine, and the router to the switch and my networking is done. All this was fine till when i got a new bit long (about 14 meters) wire. The wire always gives me "request time out"... But if i replace the new wire with a old one it works fine. I have tried changing the rj45 connectors, and also that whole damm wire but the problem still exists. I have also checked the color combination of the wires .. they are exactly same as the old ones! someone please give me a hint where and what to look for Many many thinks in advance. |

Re: new cables do not work
Well, it seems clear that something is amiss with the cables, so about all I can suggest is looking at these links. If the cable is CAT5e, you have the right stuff.

Re: new cables do not work
OLD WIRE COLOR Combination (which is working some how):
(see pin 4,5,6 ) Pin 1 White/Orange Pin 2 Orange Pin 3 White/Green Pin 4 Green Pin 5 Blue Pin 6 White/Blue Pin 7 White/Brown Pin 8 Brown Actual - the way it should be: Pin 1 White/Orange Pin 2 Orange Pin 3 White/Green Pin 4 Blue Pin 5 White/Blue Pin 6 Green Pin 7 White/Brown Pin 8 Brown Now the big question: Do i need to change the change all the old wires to the actuall combination? |

Re: new cables do not work
setting the new wire combination to actual one did it.
Pin 1 White/Orange Pin 2 Orange Pin 3 White/Green Pin 4 Blue Pin 5 White/Blue Pin 6 Green Pin 7 White/Brown Pin 8 Brown ....now both mixed wires are working fine together. ![]() Thanks everyone for the thoughts |

Re: new cables do not work
Glad you got it going. If I had a nickel for every cable I've rewired after the "professional" cable installers got done, I'd be rich. It's easy for them to get screwed up.
