email problems, dns, sbs or isp
Hello, and thanks in advance for your help. Will try to describe my problem in a concise way:
i have two domains, let's call it domain1.com and domain2.com. domain1 was hosted by afrihost, a southafrican isp. domain2 is hosted by ixwebhosting. @domain1.com email addresses were not mailboxes, they simply forwarded to @domain2.com email adresses. so far i think it makes sense we then decided to move domain1.com from afrihost to ixwebhosting, since our account there supports two separate domains. the account at afrihost was cancelled so all mail forwards were no longer viable. we then recreated all the @domain1.com emails as proper mailboxes in ixwebhosting. so no more forwarding, simply one account with two domains and each domain has it's set of mailboxes. here's where things started going wrong. most of our email users have their own computers and that is fine. however, other users who work from the main office use workstations behind a windows sbs2003 . the pop3 connector has been configured and these users can successfully send and receive emails. however, all emails sent from them, to their colleagues' @domain1.com addresses outside the main office are still being forwarded to @domain2.com addresses, instead of entering the corresponding @domain1.com mailbox. i hope i didn't make it too complicated by using 1 and 2, was trying to keep it simple. i'll now add a real example. to finish it off. kevin@domain1.com is an email address created by the sbs. info@domain1.com is a catchall address configured on the sbs which picks messages and forwards them to kevin. ben@domain1.com is a mailbox created at the host and ben is not behind the sbs. in the past, when using afrihost, all email sent to ben@domain1.com would be forwarded to ben1@domain2.com. after the migration, ben@domain1.com became a real mailbox and received emails from everyone except kevin. emails sent by kevin are still being forwarded to ben1@domain2.com. yes this box still exists otherwise we would lose all emails wrongly forwarded to it. the wierd part here is that there is no forward setup anywhere. the afrihost account has been cancelled. i know dns needs a few hours to refresh but it has been three weeks. ixwebhosting confirm everything is properly setup on their side. i truly appreciate any comments you may have, and if there is any further info i can add to make it more understandable, please let me know. thank you |
