EEK! Two Problems

My LAN network card is not detected at times. I have worked around this problem by logging off and logging in again until it shows up. I need a permanent solution to this. (I have already tried switching ports (PCI slots) and detecting hardware changes etc.)

The Card is a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC (It is 10/100 Mbps)

The next problem I have is that of my firewire card. Though the card is installed the device manager displays a yellow caution symbol next to it.
It is listed under IEEE 1394 bus host controllers as 'VIA OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller'.

Is'nt it supposed to list under network adaptors? How do I go about it.

I'm relatively not so tech savvy and would appreciate a detailed methodology or steps to be taken. Thanks in advance

Re: Two Problems

What appears in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

Let's also see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Two Problems

Note that the IEEE-1394 is the firewire port, and has nothing to do with Ethernet networking. Your IPCONFIG appears to be normal and show a good connection to a local router or server. What is the issue you are experiencing?

Re: Two Problems

I need to see the IPCONFIG /ALL when it's not working.

In Device Manager, View, Show Hidden Devices. Then I'd uninstall ALL of the stuff under IEEE-1394 controllers and reboot. If that doesn't resolve the Firewire issue, reload the chipset drivers for your motherboard.
