ics win2k pro issue
ok, ive got a 3 pc network all running 2kpro. one is the server with an sbc dsl coming in one ethernet card, and the lan in another. now the junction box is an unknown. it was well secured to the wall so i can not id what it is [router, hub, switch]. so with that in mind...
ok. the lan works. file sharing in both directions through all the pc's. a accounting and point of sale suite that runs off of the same server all works great. nice and fast. i set up ics on the server so that the other workstations could be on the internet. its all set to auto detect for the dhcp through ics on the server. i checked the terminals ips and they are all unique. this is the kicker. when i try to get on the internet, it sort of works. when trying IE nothing is displayed. it is waiting for a response as long as you will let it. firefox on the other hand will bring up google faster than you can click. you can search or whatever you choose as long as it is on the google domain. once you click a link off of the domain, it stalls and doesnt load. ive found two other websites that would do this same trick. ive recieved proper ping responses from over a dozen 'non loading' websites and i am about to go jump out a window!!! any input would be much appreciated. tommorow i am going to tear that box off the wall to figure out what it is. |

Re: ics win2k pro issue
Let's see this on the "server".
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: ics win2k pro issue
A HJT log may be a good idea, something is certainly odd... The fact that you can trace to the sites and not get to them with a browser seems to indicate malware.

Re: ics win2k pro issue
Nothing jumps out at me. Why not just use a broadband router to share the Internet, it seems it would be a lot easier to live with than ICS?

Re: ics win2k pro issue
well getting the boss to come up with the cash for a new router is a tough sell especially when the router is not pegged as the culprit. if anything i think it might have something to do with the isp. i ran into this problem with a cable isp a while back except the equation was backwards, ics solved the problem.

Re: ics win2k pro issue
In my experience, ICS solves very few problems, but creates many more. I can't imagine that $20-30 for a broadband router is a big deal to any sort of business.
