Frequent Disconnects

Hello, I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this question. First some background information. I have been frequently disconnected for Years now though the nature of the disconnects has changed several times. Upon switching from a dsl ISP to a cable ISP the problem seemed to stop for a brief period of time before resurfacing again.

Currently, I am connected through my siblings PC via a D-link router. We both suffer the same problem : whilst using msn messenger or any email service for that matter we are disconnected from the internet extremely regularily to the point where it is impossible to use such services. It disconnects several times in a row before stabilzing, but generally disconnects again within minutes.

I contacted D-link and they suggested updating the drivers which are already fully updated. I have no idea how to go about finding the source of this problem in order to fix it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly apprectiated. Thanks.

Did you update the firmware on the router? If you have a router, how are you connected through another PC?
