No internet after IP Address Conflict
Could somebody please help!!
Have a Win XP Pro SP1 machine on a workgroup. Was previously able to connect to internet. However after an IP Address Conflict, it is no longer able to connect to the internet but can still see other workgroup computers. This machine is not part of the domain, but shares the same internet connection as the domain. All of the other pcs can connect to the internet - except this one. As well, this pc used to be able to map to a company file server, but can longer do that as well. I have tried to change the Static IP Address to one that I know was not being used, as well I have Uninstalled and reinstalled the NIC card, with no luck. I had this issue in the past, but could not remember what I did to get the internet going again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: No internet after IP Address Conflict
Change the static IP, make sure you set the proper gateway to the computer or outer that has the internet connection. Also set the DNS server to be the same as the Gateway.
If you still can't reach the internet, try pinging the other computers on the network and the Gateway and see what you get. |

Re: No internet after IP Address Conflict
shwaavay, Thanks for responding.
I have tried changing the static IP. Was set at 192.168.xxx.110 Changed it to 192.168.xxx.120. with no conflicts. I can ping other pcs in the workgroup, and other pc's can ping this pc. the DNS servers and gateway are all correct. I can't however, ping other computers on the domain. Reminder - this pc as well as other withing this building are on a workgroup and not in the domain - but use the same internect connection as the domain. |

Re: No internet after IP Address Conflict
When workgroup computers connect to or through a domain there is some kind of authentication that takes place. Due to the IP address conflict, the authentication may have been screwed up. Try running network setup wizard.

Re: No internet after IP Address Conflict
shwaavay,
All of the other PC's in the workgroup, I can ping from the server(eventhough they are not on the domain). This particular pc, I cannot ping nor can I ping the server from it. Do you think I would need to remove the PC from it's current workgroup by joining the domain and then remove it from the domain and rejoin the workgroup. Do you think that would reset the IP address in the server? |

Re: No internet after IP Address Conflict
FYI, in the future, one easy cure for duplicate IP addresses is to turn everything off, then start them up one at a time. Also, you should assign any static IP addresses OUTSIDE the DHCP address pool of the router, which if probably another part of your problem.
