I am a member of a family owned business and I am having trouble configuring the network setup to be able to print from a machine connected to either router. We have two routers, one for the POS sytem and one to handle the business PCs, printer and wireless network. We used to have the high speed modem (Road Runner ISP) connectd to the personal router, but because of problems connecting to the internet to process credit cards it was moved to the POS system. The printer has always been connected to the personal router. Except now we cannot print from the POS system.
It must be possible to configure since it was working at one point in time just not under this configuration. It should just be a matter of reversing the current configuration. All computers have a network printer installed at 192.168.1.102:9100. The personal router is port forwarding 9100 to 198.162.1.102. My only thought was to change the IP address of the printer on the POS router to be WAN address or the gateway between the two routers. I have not had a chance to try this , but it seems reasonable. If not, then this must be a common configuration, so what am I missing? Any ideas? |

Re: Network Printer, Two Routers, Cannot print
I think I need to know exactly how the entire network is connected and how the two routers are configured. It's pretty normal to have issues like that across the NAT layer of the router.

Re: Network Printer, Two Routers, Cannot print
Problem solved. The issue was that the POS router was not using the correct address when sneding output to the printer. The installed printer driver need to use the personal router's address and port 9100. The personal router then forward that request to the printer's LAN address.
