[SOLVED] New Router (Netgear), wireless devices keep 'reconnecting' ?
Hi!
Just bought a new router to boost the speed for internal media streaming and such. Installed it, ran the Setup and hooked up the HTPC and girlfriends laptop. All fine, but for some reason the computers keep 'reconnecting', i.e. the balloon at the bottom keeps popping up saying it connected and signal strenght is excellent etc. I'm guessing this is some setting on renewing lease or so, but haven't been able to find it yet. On the previous older router we used WEP, now it's configured for WPA + SPK (TCIK or something). I can't really believe this is how the WPA works though. Anybody who knows how to fix this? |

Re: New Router (Netgear), wireless devices keep 'reconnecting' ?
give us the specs of the router (make, model, features) & the specs of the laptop. then we can better troubleshoot the issues. off the top of my head it sounds like there may be some interference in the signal, thus making the wireless signal intermittent. get the specs then we'll go from there.

Re: New Router (Netgear), wireless devices keep 'reconnecting' ?
Check for router firmware updates.
Move back to WEP or no encryption for a test and see what happens. Some wireless devices do not support WPA so well. Also check for driver updates for the wireless cards. If it is an Intel wireless card, it will definitely require driver updates. JamesO |

Re: New Router (Netgear), wireless devices keep 'reconnecting' ?
It's a Netgear WGT624IS router.
WEP works fine, but on WPA it's ****. The laptop can 'connect' but while it tries to get an IP adress I saw the signal strenght is bouncing rhythmically between excellent and bad, then to lost. And then the cycle restarts. With WEP the signal is excellent all the time. Odd. Doesn't matter much, WEP does the trick, especially in combination with MAC-filter. It's just that if they make a standard, why don't it just work ![]() Thanks for the replies guys! |

On the vista connect to window it just says aquiring IP then conntected then back to the original it has no security encryption as we live near no one literally and i have tried resetting the router updating all firmware Changing channel Help me please too Many thanks |
