Long delay when opening a mapped network drive
Hi,
I have a 8 computer home network, with 1 file server that is running XP Pro. I have a Netgear router that has 3 hubs, and the file server connected to it, the 3 hubs then connect to the work stations. On each computer we have 2 drives mapped to the file server. When I try to open one of the mapped network drives there is a long delay (about 40sec-1min) and whatever I am using (Windows Explorer or My Computer, results are the same) will show "Not Responding". Then after the delay it will open the drive and all the files will be accessible at normal speed, and for awhile after that closing and opening the mapped network drive will be normal speed. However if left dormant for very long, i will again have to wait the delay. It seems to only occur when using a mapped network drive, going through My Network Places to any computer seems to be normal speed. I don't know if this is important but the 2 drives on the server are duplicating RAIDs with sata wires. I just replaced the router and all the hubs. I have unplugged all the computers except one and the server using brand new cables and get the same results. I have turned off all power save features on the server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Long delay when opening a mapped network drive
Take a look at this tip page. The scheduled tasks hack usually helps for many systems: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1722545,00.asp
