Lost External HDD Share

Hello,
A while back I was able to share 2 external hard drives (2.0 USB), that are attached to my desktop, with my WIFI Laptop. The desktop is hard wired to my Linksys WRT54GS V5 router as is the laptop is WIFI ri the same router.

Prior to the problem, I installed Acronis True Image and backed up both computers to the same external HDD.

Two days ago, I had cause to do a restore to my desktop, from one of the external HDD's, using the Acronis software. Unfortunitly, I did not have a current backup which was taken before I installed the two external HDD's.

I can ping the desktop from the Laptop and ping the laptop from the desktop. I can also see, from the laptop that the two external HDD's exist.

When the desktop is on, but not being used, and I attempt to connect to the external HDD's from the laptop, I get an error message "Network Path not found". When the desktop is in use and I try the same connection from the laptop, I get an error message "Not enough Server Storate available to process this command". It goes with out being said, I have learned a valuable lesson and should keep a current backup of both systems.

Thanks to anyone that can help me.

Re: Lost External HDD Share

Hi, and welcome to TSF!

I would start by un-sharing the two hard drives and re-sharing them. Re-map the network drives if necessary.

You may also want to hook the hard drives up the laptop and share them to the desktop. See if you can see them connected to the laptop from the desktop.

Re: Lost External HDD Share

Hello Matt,

When I first connected the 2 external HDD's, I did not have to "map" either of them to get them to share from the desktop to the laptop. Also, I have done the un-share and re-share with no success. I am thinking if undoing everything and starting from scratch which would include the sharing of folders on the "C" drives of both machines. This might take me a while as I am going to need a couple of hours to do all of this.
