Re: Laptop Cannot Aquire Network Address (Wireless)
Does the network you're trying to connect to show a lock symbol? (If so, this means it's secure, and you need a key) This also usually happens when there is MAC filtering going on. Are you the admin of the router? How many networks do you see?

Re: Laptop Cannot Aquire Network Address (Wireless)
I am the admin of the router and have gotten on to the network using the password. There are more networks that are secure but I dont know the passwords and havent used them.

Re: Laptop Cannot Aquire Network Address (Wireless)
He means the encryption on the wireless section of the router. While you are in the config make double sure that there is no mac address filtering specified. If there is either turn it off or add the MAC of the new box if you know how. It will pay to leave broadcast ssdid on too at least for starters. It offers virtually no protection against hackers anyway.
Once it is working you absolutely must turn encryption back on and try to connect again - as you can see other networks other will see yours and may connect either deliberately or by accident. Once in they are past any firewall and have just the same rights as you do ![]() From my experience of windows wireless networking it is very flaky indeed - simple to set up and can work like a breeze - then for no apparent reason it will throw a wobbler and leave you tearing out your hair trying to work out what went wrong. Re: Laptop Cannot Aquire Network Address (Wireless)
The problem i have is i cannot make changes in the network because of the D-link setup wizard doesn't seem to work on any computer i use. Thusly, i cannot turn the encryption off.
192.168.0.1 is the address and my manual says to enter admin as the username and leave the passsword blank but that doesn't seem to be working. |

Re: Laptop Cannot Aquire Network Address (Wireless)
The first step in getting a router, is to log in, and change the password- but we're past that now. It may be admin for username and admin for the password. If not you'll have to reset it back to factor defaults, which will give you access to the router, and allow you to configure the router. My suggestion on that note, is you have someone you trust and know help you set it back up. You need to know about encryption and MAC filtering, and port forwarding, and a host of other features a router offers. If you don't have anyone you can trust to do this, we can explain what the features are- but it will just take longer than if you had someone right beside you. Read the manual, it should show you how to reset it back to factory defaults. I don't feel real comfortable explaining how to reset a router back to factory defaults, due to I can't be certain you own the router. Don't take offense, it's just against the forum rules, and professionalism to explain ways into things that were meant to keep us out.
