Wireless Problem - MSN working, but nothing else...?

I recently bought a Netgear WGT634U wireless router and connected it up with my USB LAN adapter, but the only service working is Windows Live Messenger. Browsing, etc does not work at all. Anyone know where the problem might lie?

BTW, the router is connected directly to another PC, on which the internet is working perfectly most of the time, but sometimes plays up (i.e. have to keep rebooting a few times to get it to work again etc.). It's just the wirelessly connected one giving me problems.

On the working computer and the non-working one, please do this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 & Vista.

For XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

For Vista, Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

The only thing that springs to mind is a firewall component blocking the access.

I don't know. I've turned off the Windows Firewall component, and I've completely disabled the antivirus that I was running.

Could the access still be blocked from some place? Like the router? If the router was blocking the access, would the computer connected directly to the router lose access also?

Unless you specifically programmed the router to do something really strange for one IP address, it's not the router.

A simple test is to connect directly to the broadband modem with your machine and see if the problem still exists.
