Connected to the router but Fails the Internet

I have a problem with my labtop -- I used to access the Internet no problem using my labtop with a cable. Since last week, I can't access website using both IE and firefox, MSN, and any application that access the Internet.

The little internet connection icons were at the corner of the screen as usual. I suppose the ipconfig looks normal. I use University network. So, I pinged the router using 'ping XXXX.AC.UK' and it got replies ok! However, it got reply timeout when I pinged the Internet such as 'ping google.com'.

I'm quite sure the ISP (i.e. the University network) is ok because I tried my friend's labtop with the Internet access point I used and it works fine.

I also have tried Wi-Fi Internet connection at University. It got the same result as mentioned above (icon appears ok; message says connection strength was excellent; ping the router was fine but failed the Internet) except that I'm not familiar with the ipconfig for wireless network.

I use Win XP Pro without any proxy or special DNS setting.

I'm thinking if it's the network card having problem. What do you think? Any comments will be appreciated!

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.


Also, Try these simple tests.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

PING 216.109.112.135
