Hi we have 512 kbs ADSL with 2 laptops (XP) one desktop (XP) and another desktop (Vista) connected to the D-Link DSL-502T modem and the NetComm Wireless firewall router NB5540, there is usually one computer on but often 2 or 3, we dont use one of the desktops, the problem is that at any time of the day or night, usually after a new computer has connected to the network, most computers except the new one, or even the new one, stop being able to access the internet, but the thing is I can log into X-Fire, Steam, and Teamspeak, but cannot use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox I have also noticed that the ad banner on xfire says page cannot be displayed.
The quick fix for this is to turn the modem and router off for a couple of minutes and then the computers seem to work fine again, but this is a hassle. I would like to know is there any other solution I could try (without stuffing around with the comps settings cause the the laptops are school/work) to fix this, or if it is just a habit of the router and what would be a better choice. Thanks!? :P |

Re: Drop outs but not? need help
Well, I'd start by upgrading the firmware on the router to the latest available, and also doing a factory reset and reconfiguration. Also, if there is any P2P activity on the network, this throws many routers for a loop.
