These classes are alot of work in the beginning, but if you do it the right way it will make more sense in the end. Heck, I am still learning! I follow johnwill around like a cat.

If this were a homework assignment I think you would have by this time needed to turn it in, unless it was a project. So I am assuming you really are having problems understanding this, and are trying to learn. Your question, what programs use the protocol, depends on what protocol is being used on the network. Is it TCP/IP? Then that is what they use. Is it netbeui? Is it IPX/SPX? That is what they use. It can get a little more complicated, but that is it in a nutshell. Your question is a bit ambiguous, so I am not sure if this is what you are actually asking.

FTP works in the application layer using tcp/ip, not vice versa. These things can be answered with any networking book. I think you need to get a grasp of the transmission protocols, tcp/ip, ipx/spx etc. so study those and get the foundation laid. Regardless, by the time frame of you posts I am assuming we are back to you asking homework questions.
