Please Help! I have a IP CONFLICT that is the same on the NETWORK.
I have looked EVERYWHERE. and nothing can help me. I was messing with my modem last night. I think I changed something inside the "modem" settings and now I can't do anything.
I have tried connecting it to 3 different computers in my house. So is not a computer's problem. I went to CMD, And tried IPCONFIG. It gives me a static IP of 0.0.0.0 I try to Release and RENEW.. AND NOTHING.. it gives me another error. An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection 3 : The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address. I also get the POP UP ERROR from windows itself warning me of the samething! I have tried EVERYTHING.. But I can't comminicate with the Modem.. Problem is even the MODEM doesn't have a SOFT RESET button anywhere. Is there a Period of time I can leave it disconnected and maybe it will reset itself or something? Please Anyone Help! Thanks! Last edited by O.E. : 06-30-2007 at 09:05 AM. |

Hi O.E,
What Brand of Modem are you using here? Post back with the Make & Model and we will see what we can do to assist you. Kind Regards,

Ok....sometimes a 'power reboot' of the modem can cure these problems.
Turn OFF the power to the Modem (and pull the power plug) for a full two minutes....after this time plug it back in and reboot the computer. Usually this helps. Give it a try and post back. Kind Regards, Dave T.

Re: Please Help! I have a IP CONFLICT that is the same on the NETWORK.
Yeah I turned off my computer all night and all night my modem was also off. NOPE..
Anyhow, I tried that Microsoft Step by Step Procedure. Where it takes you through Network Diagnostics and you can see the ONES that failed. I see them. There 3 Ips.. But I don't understand how to fix them or change them. Apparently I have to change one of the ips so IPCONFIG can give me a new IP for my modem .. That's what I understood of it. But you know better than I..... Does that help? |

Re: Please Help! I have a IP CONFLICT that is the same on the NETWORK.
Depending on the lease times involved, just turning off the modem won't do the trick. Let's do this the right way.
Turn off ALL the equipment, modem, router, and all the machines. Turn on the modem, then the router (if you have one), finally after a couple of minutes, boot up the computers one at a time. The reason this happens is that if the router is restarted, it forgets about all the IP addresses that it's assigned, and starts at the beginning of the DHCP address pool. However, if the machine(s) have not been rebooted, they still retain the existing IP address until the lease expires. That can cause the duplicate IP address issue.
