Network Problem
I am running 3 competers all with XP pro, on a network. 2 of them can transfer files to and from with no problems, but the third one can get files from the other two computers but the other two cannot get files from the third, they can access shared folders but files will not transfer, it starts to but the time remaining drops to something like 113 hours and then it stops. All three computers will ping each other. Any ideas what the problem is?

Re: Network Problem
Sounds like a network driver issue, have you updated the drivers for the NIC on that machine?

Re: Network Problem
Yes all 3 pcs have the latest nic drivers, like I said I can access the other two machines and transfer files but the other two can access mine but won't transfer files properly, the speed drops dramatically then it just stops copying. I've tried disabling firewall also but still doesn't work.

Right i'll go into more detail.
We have 3 PCs each with 2 NIC cards (1 for internet & 1 for network because we want to keep the network and the internet seperate, I have attached a badly drawn diagram to try and show how it's set up). PC1 has it's own internet connection, pcs 2 & 3 are connected to a cable modem via a router, while the network is connected via a second router. All pcs have up-to-date drivers for everything. |

Re: Network Problem
Why the complicated setup? I'm guessing that is part of the problem. I would think a good firewall on the CM machine would solve this problem. If you really don't want it to have Internet, configure the firewall to block all requests outside of your network subnet.
If you really want to stick with this arrangement, I'd suggest you do some reading on ROUTE, because I suspect that will solve the speed problem.

Re: Network Problem
In that case, you're going to have to navigate the intricacies of ROUTE and see if you can get stuff flowing smoothly again.
I still don't understand why a firewall wouldn't be a MUCH easier solution here, because you still have an indirect connection to the Internet from the 3rd machine. ![]()
