constant disconnects through wireless

I Recently just moved in to a new house and subscribe to RCN's internet package.
Every 10 minutes or so it seems like I disconnect. That goes for most of my roommates as well. The strange thing is my friend was over last night with his laptop (newer and much better) and it was set up right next to mine and while I kept disconnecting, his connection stayed perfect. Is this because he has a better network or wireless card? (no idea about this stuff) Most of my roommates all have the same laptop (through our school) and they disconnect seemingly all the time. I must not be more than 10 feet from where the wireless connection signal.

Re: constant disconnects through wireless

If you are using a 3rd party wireless client, you have to disable WZC in XP's services, which may account for your problems.
