Question Webcam W/ Satellite DSL

Hey guys. I have a question and, after some research, I still could not find the answer. So I decided to post it on this forum. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place.

First, for some background info, I have a new house that I recently purchased in a separate state than I currently live in. It's currently being remodeled. I have Direct TV internet access in the house, but no computer.

My question is this: how can I set up a webcam in the house so I can keep tabs on what is going on inside it from where I am living now? I don't know what types of wires would be needed, nor do I know if I need a computer to do this. So, how do I do it?

If anyone has an answer, I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Webcam W/ Satellite DSL

You will at least need a broadband connection. After you get that, you can use any of a number of wired or wireless Internet cameras to directly connect to your service. Obviously to use wireless cameras, you need a wireless router.

Here's a sample of the internet cameras available, there are tons more: http://www.dlink.com/products/category.asp?cid=60

I don't need a computer to set this up, right?

I have set up wireless routers before, and usually you need to install something on a computer for it to work.

You may need a computer to configure the router and the Internet cameras, but after that there is no computer required.

FWIW, I've never used the "setup software" that comes with a router, the router's web based interface is all you need to configure anything on the router. Obviously, you need a computer connected while you're doing this configuration, a laptop is probably the most convenient.
