Limited or no connectivity
gremlin20067@ho's post titled "Renewing IP Address" may lead to the same solution but I'm not going to borrow his post. I'm starting a new thread just in case our solutions differ.
I'm at my friend's apartment right now, planning on moving in, and I decided to bring my computer over so we wouldn't have to take turns using each other's computer for homework. I have a Net Gear WG111 v2 and it works fine at my regular apartment, I can connect to the network provided by the apartment complex or the BrightHouse network we decided to purchase. I brought my computer over here and tried connecting to his router and it tries to renew IP Address but it hangs for awhile at that stage and surrenders. :[ I tried researching similar problems but they seem to get solved in different ways. I'll keep up with gremlin20067@ho's post and if we split ways, I'll stay with this thread. |

Re: Limited or no connectivity
Hi,
![]() First, disable any security settings on the router including encryption and MAC filtering. Then make sure that the router's DHCP server is enabled and that dynamic routing is being used rather than static routing.

Re: Limited or no connectivity
Whew okay.
I finally got an internet working through this computer. However, a problem still exists . . . it's a little new but I'm going back to this thread. Linksys has provided a PCConnect program that I've been using frequently, because, I keep getting disconnected at random. What happens is that, while I'm surfing the net or out grabbing a drink, my internet will disconnect. I click the repair option on the Wireless Network Connection and it reaches the Renew IP Address and halts once again. But then I use the magic PCConnect.exe and I'm back online. But it's weird because my friend is still online but I get disconnected, and I keep having to do this trick to get back online. Quote:
I'm not sure why the Repair option doesn't renew the IP Address, but the PCConnect.exe takes care of that problem, but for some reason I get disconnected. Another thing I wanted to bring up is that when I use this program, I noticed that Windows automatically connects me, and it seems that Netgear isn't in use. I'm not familiar with internet connections but shouldn't Netgear be the program used to connect instead of Windows? At my previous apartment, Netgear always kept me online. Does this make a difference? Thanks for the help in advance. Last edited by Mana Dragon; 06-20-2007 at 07:05 PM. |

Re: Limited or no connectivity
OK, who is the manufacturer of your router? When you set it up, did you change any of the default settings in the router configuration?

Re: Limited or no connectivity
Whoops totally sorry about not mentioning the router itself.
The router is a Linksys Model: WRT54G. There's been no changes to the settings. I'm using a Net Gear WG111 v2 (USB Adapator) to connect to the wireless network. I haven't been disconnected yet, sometimes it happens a few times in a row. |

Re: Limited or no connectivity
Okay, well ever since I moved my computer over, it's been with Windows instead of Netgear. I'm not sure if that's the major cause.
I also can't really get it to set to Netgear because when I try to, I get disconnected again later on and I end up using the PCConnect program which uses Windows to hook me back up. |
