renewing ip address
i resently bought a laptop used off of a freind it has a new hard drive on it and i just reinstalled windows and all the drivers. whenever i connect to my laptop to the same modem as my desktop using the same cable it gives me limited or no activity and i have nothing as far a internet but my desktop works fine when it is connected. i had the same ploblem with my desktop over a year ago and went through 3 strait nights of talking to dell support to figure out it that i needed to reset the win sock. i tried that on my laptop but im not sure exacly how im sopposed to do it and not sure if i did it right. if anyone has any suggestions im open for ideas

well through trying a lot of different things i finally got my internet to work on my laptop and got the wireless router software installed and got it all hooked up. It now finds the wireless network and says it has excelent signal but i have the same problem with the renewing the ip address and the fix i used before doesnt seem to be working i dont know anything about wireless networks so if someone can help me out you time will be greatly appreciated

More than likely, you have to log into the router from the desktop (the one that is hardwired to the router) and configure it correctly. What router do you have? What network does it say you are connected too? Does the laptop work when hardwired to the router?

hey sorry for the wait but my computer desktop died on me and ive been resurecting it then yesterday i worked a 14 hour day but i configured the router using my laptop i thought i had to but my laptop works when it is hardwired and i have my desk top hooked up to the router hardwired now i guess i should try configuring it again with my desktop hooked up to it but it is a linksys router and i named the network linksys when i configured it the first time and that is the network it says it is on the problem i was having before i solved by reseting the winsock catalog and then turning it off reseting the router but i tried that when it is hooked up wirelessly and it doesnt fix it sorry for the long response any more help you can give me will be appreciated

hey it works thanks for the help i feel so stupid for it beening that i had to configure the router with my desktop rather than my laptop or maby it was something i did differently when i configure it either way thanks
