L3 Switch works but can not access
Hello All! I have a l3 switch that i need access to that is not responding. Basically i can not ping it. When i am serialed in (console port) i can not ping out. I have rebooted the switch and still can not access it. Oddest thing is this the last switch right before the internet, and everyone still has internet. This is a netgear l3 7300 switch. This also include my web access being down as well telnet. I have check the settings and nothing appears to be locked out.

Re: L3 Switch works but can not access
My guess is that the vlan 0 interface (or management) interface is configured incorrectly (either the IP address, subnet mask, or the default gateway.) Most switches do not require any kind of setup or IP address to pass information from one switch to the next, so it makes sense that the your network can still get out to the Internet even though the system's IP address is not responding.
Check the IP, subnet mask, and default gateway again. Make sure you can ping the default gateway IP address from the switch using the console connection (unless the switch's default gateway is a firewall, then pings may not return correctly even if the IP setup is correct.) If you would like to post the IP information, maybe I can help sort it out. (Good luck with your CCNA!) |

Re: L3 Switch works but can not access
Yup that was it thanks. Sorta also thought it was cause i think a communication got fudged and it began to think there was a vlan in there i made, but didn't assign ports to. Ohh well i appreciate it!
