XP LAN Problems
I recently went from one computer hooked up directly to a cabelmodem to 2 computers hooked up to it via a router. My original computer still works fine through the router, but the other isnt.
I have a older dell with an ethernet port on the motherboard and in a pci slot. XP (pro) was just reinstalled on it. The computer recognizes and connect to the network. (and the router recognizes the additional pc) But i am unable to use the internet in any way shape or form on it. Help!!! Thanks, Gimpster123 |

Re: XP LAN Problems
I (determining speed) would recomend using the onboard ethernet adapter. I've had bad problems with cards before. And yes, try different PCI slots.

Re: XP LAN Problems
Thanks for the feed back.
Network Connections on the problem pc recognizes the connection from the router, if i unplug it the "network cable unplugged" message comes up. The router also recognizes the pc. I believe my problem lies in the settings. Is there some kind of an "default internet connection" setting? Thanks again, Gimp |

Re: XP LAN Problems
In your control panel go to your Network connections. If it shows your local area connection as "connected" right click status. How many packets are being sent when you try and use the internet. Is it's a non-wireless router connection there should be no setting you need tinkering with, what router do you have?
