Limited Connectivity
Hi.
A few weeks ago I purchased a Belkin Wireless Router (F5D7230-4) and everything worked fine. Until about a week ago. When I have my modem connected to the router and the router connected to my computer, I dont have any internet on this computer. But the wireless computer works fine. I've called Belkin and they didnt seem to understand my problem, Said that there was something wrong with my networking card. But if I bypass the router, and plug my modem directly into my computer, everything works fine. So I called them back and then they told me something about my modem bypassing my router. I had no idea what they were saying seeing as they spoke very bad english. My computer is running windows vista, and the other one is running windows xp. I have a Seimens Speedstream 4100 modem with At&t Yahoo internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Limited Connectivity
Did you try a different port on the router? How about a different cable?
Connect back to the router and do this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

Re: Limited Connectivity
Well I actually returned the router once for a different one and it seemed to not make any difference.

Re: Limited Connectivity
Have you verified that you can talk to your wireless router? Try accessing http://75.21.243.153. If you can get there, check the outside or public interface on the router. Most of the time this will be setup to receive the IP address automatically.

Re: Limited Connectivity
If that IPCONFIG is with the router connected, you have it connected incorrectly. If it's directly connected to the modem, that isn't what I want to see.

Re: Limited Connectivity
Since you have a public IP address on the wired connection, that indicates the modem is connected to a LAN/Network port, not the WAN/Internet port.

Re: Limited Connectivity
Looks like the problem was that your router was not giving you a valid dhcp IP address.
The ip starting with 72 is a auto default ip when it cannot gain a dhcp ip from your router. In simple terms your router was not setup correctly to give out a IP Address.

Re: Limited Connectivity
Actually, the 169.254.x.x address is the autoconfiguration address for Windows.
