Two problems, Internet and Other.
Hi everybody, I'm not sure where to post these two irritating problems but here goes, and thanks in advance If assistance is offered.
1. First, occasionally when switching on the PC, I appear with no internet. This is odd, and usually after turning off, going to bed, work, and coming back home.. A quick unplug of the router downstairs fixes this, but it is rather annoying.. Fixing it would be great!. 2. This problem is much more severe and random. It's a simple lockup that requires a restart of the PC to fix. It doesn't seem to happen for any reason, and happens randomly, and whats more, started happening randomly too.. I wish I could offer more help on these, but that is all I have.. Just ask if you need any more information from me. Lunchbreak over now, so hope to hear more! p.s. sorry for rushed post, and lack of greeting post, i'm in a bit of a hurry to get back to work! I'll make a better greeting when I get home! Re: Two problems, Internet and Other.
For the first problem, I'd consider upgrading the firmware on the router, and doing a factory reset and reconfiguration. This sounds like the router's going to sleep.
The second issue most likely has nothing to do with networking, and it could be a multitude of things. You might want to start by doing some simple diagnostics. Start by running one of these memory tests for a few hours, they'll test the memory and exercise the processor and other MB components. Any errors need to be addressed. Re: Two problems, Internet and Other.
Thank you very very much for this response but:
1. The firmware seems up to date, and last time I tried a factory restart I had to call in a technician to fix it! So I avoid doing that. ![]() 2. I have no clue what to do with this memory test, it seems to suggest I have to have a CD or floppy.. Which neither I have.

Re: Two problems, Internet and Other.
Your lockup issue could be caused by a number of things relating to hardware and software.
Consider re-posting the second item in this forum. Folks there will help you check your system for viruses, spyware, and other malware. If that doesn't fix the problem, odds are there's something physically wrong. Memory, as John mentioned, is your best place to start. When you say you don't have a floppy, does this mean you don't have a blank disk or you don't have a floppy drive in your PC? |

Re: Two problems, Internet and Other.
I suggest you get some blank CD's.
